Exhibition Place is home to over forty plaques and monuments commemorating outstanding events, individuals or buildings. For instance, plaques have been dedicated to:
- Exhibition Place structures of significant architectural merit or historical interest
- Canadians who have contributed to the growth and development of the Canadian National Exhibition or the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair
- Canadians who have contributed generally to advancements in the arts, agriculture and industry in Canada
- Various military units stationed at Exhibition Place since the mid-nineteenth century
- Other military events and sites including the advance on York during the War of 1812, Fort Rouille and the internment camp that was part of Stanley Barracks during the First World War
- The celebration of peace and good relations between nations and cities
The plaques of Exhibition Place were placed by various organizations and individuals and by all levels of government interested in marking significant events. This tradition, which began in 1878, the year before the CNE was founded, continues through to the present.
